Calm Do Not Panic

When a sudden water flood damage, or unfortunately incident occurs in our lives, it’s only natural to panic. Before you attempt any further beware electricity is present. Turn electrical power to the flooded area, that you think has or will contact electrical wiring. When you experience water damage in your home, the average person panics.

Water damage to a house can occur in many ways, you should do everything within your power to prevent it from happening, but unfortunately it will happen. Even the most solidly built and well-maintained home can be damaged by a violent force of nature, such as a flood, hurricane, tornado, or wildfire. In other situations, a water pipe may burst, or a sump pump may malfunction while you’re away on vacation and do serious water damage to your home and possessions. So, there’s no way to predict exactly how a water-related emergency might occur. But, it’s a constant possibility and fact-of-life for homeowners. Sump Pump Endorsement

Make sure you have an endorsement for sump pump failure. When you leave on vacation you must have someone watching your home, or your policy will refuse payment for water damage.
You called your insurance company and they inform you that you have no coverage, what do you do? Average homeowner will try to find ways to dry the home themselves and as cost effective as can be accomplished. Small fans are use, shop vac, tiny dehumidifier is used. You can get lucky with a minor flood, but your families health is not something you want to gamble on. You need to dry the carpet and structure as fast as possible, time is a big factor.

Mold Is Not A Friend

Within 48 hours mold will start to make its presence known. The moisture in your carpet and drywall will help the mold to grow. Mold spores need moisture to begin growing, digesting and destroying. Molds can grow on almost any surface, including; wood, ceiling tiles, wallpaper, paints, carpet, sheet rock, and insulation. There is no way to get rid of all molds and mold spores from your home.
